UN Climate Negotiations

Information from the Norwegian Ministries about the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen Dec 7 – Dec 18.

The Ministry of Finance has decided to exclude 17 companies that produce tobacco from the Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG), based on a recommendation from the Fund’s Council on Ethics. The divestment of shares in these companies has now been completed.

Norway to increase its aid to Haiti following the earthquake

Norwegian aid to the earthquake victims in Haiti is to be increased to NOK 100 million (USD 17.5 millon).

Joint statement on Sudan

Saturday 9 January 2010 marks the fifth anniversary of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement for Sudan. The agreement put an end to the longest civil war in African history. Now, one year ahead of the referendum on self-determination for Southern Sudan, the peace process is in a very challenging phase.

Ministry changes from 2010

In the 18 December session of the Council of State some changes were undertaken in the structure of ministries as of 1 January 2010. The changes were announced when Government changes were made on 20 October this year.

New EEA Financial Mechanism negotiated – Historic cooperation between Norway and the new EU member states

Today, the EEA/EFTA countries signed an agreement with the EU on new financial contributions. Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre commented: “The new EEA Financial Mechanism gives Norway a historic opportunity to strengthen cooperation with the new EU member states.
