‘It is an honour to welcome President Zelensky and my Nordic colleagues and friends to Oslo. This summit makes it clear that the Nordic countries will provide comprehensive, long-term support for Ukraine. We will support Ukraine in our words and our actions for as long as it takes,’ said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

On Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Støre had a bilateral meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky. During their discussions, Mr Støre announced additional Norwegian assistance to Ukraine.

After the bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Støre and President Zelensky joined the Prime Ministers of Denmark, Iceland and Sweden and the President of Finland at a Nordic-Ukrainian Summit. During the summit, the Nordic leaders pledged to provide additional political, economic and military support to Ukraine.

‘After dealing with nearly ten years of Russian aggression, including more than 650 days of full-scale war, Ukraine continues to demonstrate extraordinary determination in exercising its legitimate right to self-defence,’ said the Nordic leaders in a joint statement (PDF).

The Nordic countries condemn Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine. Russia must end its war of aggression and withdraw its forces immediately and unconditionally from the internationally recognised territory of Ukraine.

International pressure, including sanctions, must be increased and any loop-holes closed. There can be no impunity for violations of international humanitarian law and all individuals responsible for such violations and abuses of human rights must be held accountable.

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion, the Nordic countries have provided more than EUR 11 billion in total in military, economic and humanitarian support to Ukraine. The Nordic heads of government reiterated that they will continue their support, individually and collectively as a region, as well as under the framework of various international formats and platforms. The Nordic countries will stand with Ukraine as long as it takes.
