Russia takes over the chairmanship of the health collaboration under the Northern Dimension

November 25 Norway hosted the Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being’s Annual Conference. At the conference, Russia formally took over the chairmanship of the Partnership from Norway.

Joint communiqe by The Ministers of Health of the Foreign Policy and Global Health Initiative

The Ministers of Health of the Foreign Policy and Global Health (FPGH) Initiative, comprising Brazil, France, Indonesia, Norway, Senegal, South Africa and Thailand, met on the sidelines of the 63rd World Health Assembly in Geneva today to discuss current global health challenges, particularly the importance of achieving the health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), ahead of the upcoming MDG Summit in New York in September 2010.

The Coordination Reform

In the course of April 2009 the Minister of Health and Social Affairs Bjarne Håkon Hanssen will present a new health reform, a coordination reform, for the health service. The minister’s own team of experts will help him to find the economic and legal tack for meeting the challenges in the Norwegian health sector.

National strategy to reduce social inequalities in health

– Social inequalities in health are a public health concern and an expression of unacceptable systematic injustices, says Sylvia Brustad, Norwegian Minister of Health and Social Affairs. The Ministry of Health and Care Services has in Report No. 20 (2006–2007) to the Storting recommendations of a National strategy to reduce social inequalities in health.

Health cooperation in Norway's adjacent areas

Since the beginning of the 1990s, Norway has been involved in a broad cooperation with its adjacent areas. This cooperation is concentrated around the Barents region and the countries around the Baltic Sea. The cooperation has also been strengthended through the establishment of "the Northern Dimension" - a partnership with the EU, Russia, Norway and Iceland as equal partners.

National Diabetes Strategy

Through the National Diabetes Strategy (2006 – 2010), the Government wishes to meet the challenges of the future.

National Health Plan

In the National Health Plan for Norway (2007–2010) the government presents the status of the health service in Norway today, and suggests policy measures that are intended to result in a better health service.
