Domestic violence

All violence is unacceptable, including violence that takes place in the private sphere. Helping to prevent violence in all population groups is a public responsibility.

Through the Soria Moria Declaration, the Norwegian Government has committed itself to intensifying efforts to combat domestic violence.

We must take action. It is our responsibility to safeguard the right of both women and men to a life free of violence and threats of violence, and to ensure that children can grow up without suffering abuse or fear.

Domestic violence in families with a minority ethnic background

There is political consensus in Norway that domestic violence is not a private matter, and that public authorities are responsible for preventing and helping to avert this kind of violence.
