Svalbard Global Seed Vault - "Perpetual repercussion", has been awarded Norwegian Lighting Prize for 2009. The award was established by The Norwegian Lighting Institute, and is presented every second year. The purpose of the Norwegian Lighting Prize is to focus on and emphasize lighting culture in Norway.

Svalbard Global Seed Vault: On Wednesday 2 September, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon is visiting Svalbard Global Seed Vault together with Minister of Agriculture and Food Lars Peder Brekk. “Maintenance of the genetic diversity in the world’s food crops for future generations is crucial to fight against hunger and poverty in third world countries,” says Brekk.

Animal welfare: The Norwegian Minister of Agriculture and Food, Mr Lars Peder Brekk, keep on working against the European Union in the question of animal slaughter anestetics. Brekk wants the union to acknowledge the countries' supremacy in deciding over this matter. -We must not reverse the ongoing work for animal welfare, says Brekk in a letter to five ministers of agriculture.
