Animal welfare: Asks EU colleagues to say yes to anesthetics

Animal welfare: The Norwegian Minister of Agriculture and Food, Mr Lars Peder Brekk, keep on working against the European Union in the question of animal slaughter anestetics. Brekk wants the union to acknowledge the countries' supremacy in deciding over this matter. -We must not reverse the ongoing work for animal welfare, says Brekk in a letter to five ministers of agriculture.

Today the 21.World Trotting Conference opened in Oslo. - The horse industry gives an important contribution to our economy, and secures jobs and activities all over the country, says Norway’s minister of Agriculture and Food, Lars Peder Brekk.

New Animal Welfare Act

The Norwegian Parliament (the Storting)has adopted the new Animal Welfare Act. The way we treat our animals reflects the ethical standard of the society. The Act gives the legal framework for animal welfare in Norway.

Brekk wants a UN-declaration on animal welfare

The minister for Agriculture and Food Lars Peder Brekk has stated his support for the proposed Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW) in a letter to the international animal welfare organisation WSPA.

Awaits feedback from the Food Safety Authority

Animal: The Minister of Agriculture and Food Lars Peder Brekk is kept informed on the Norwegian Food Safety Authority's follow-up on the current fur industry situation. Yesterday the 12th of November, the Minister was presented with documentation produced and compiled by the Norwegian Network for the freedom of animals (Nettverk for dyrs frihet). The documentation consists of a register of observations, photos and movie footage.

Animal: Play the interactive computer game Farmland and learn about animal welfare!

Animal: In an effort to raise awareness among children about the impostance of treating farmed animals in a respectful and humane way, the European Commission has launched "Farmland", a website for children on animal welfare. "Farmland" is an interactive and informative online computer game targeting children aged between 9 and 12, which also aims to help tomorrow's consumers be in a position to make informed choises about the food they will be buying.

Animal Welfare: Proposal for a new animal welfare act

Animal Welfare: A proposal for a new Norwegian Animal Welfare Act has been released. The consultation paper is available in Norwegian, and a short summary is available in English. The draft Act is available in both languages. The deadline for comments is Monday 18.02.2008.
