Norway’s Stoltenberg to give advice on financing effort against climate change in developing countries

Norway’s Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg has become member of the UN High-level Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing. The group was recently appointed by the UN Secretary-General, to mobilise the financing promised for efforts against climate change during the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen last December.

Norway and Mexico launch joint model for Climate Funding in Copenhagen

Today, Norway and Mexico launched a joint model for climate funding at the negotiations in Copenhagen. The model will establish a Green Fund for financing of climate actions in developing countries. Contributions to the Green Fund should come both from public budgets and from auctioning of allowances. The size of the fund is likely to reach around USD 30-40 billion by 2020.

The need for a strong political climate agreement in Copenhagen and the military and civilian efforts in Afghanistan were important topics in today's talks in Oslo between Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and US President Barack Obama. Stoltenberg announced that Norway will increase its financial contribution to the Afghan National Army and Police to a total of USD 110 million for the period 2010 to 2014.
