Norway welcomes initiative to resume nuclear talks with Iran
Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre commented, “Norway welcomes the initiative that has now been taken to resume talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the Security Council together with Germany. It is positive that a political solution is being sought with regard to the uncertainties surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.”
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton has, on behalf of France, China, Russia, the UK, the US and Germany, accepted the invitation to engage in new talks with Iran on its nuclear programme. This was conveyed by letter to Iran’s chief negotiator, Saeed Jalili, today. It was Iran that took the initiative to resume the talks, which were broken off more than a year ago.
“We hope that the resumption of talks will lead to real progress, build confidence and reduce the current uncertainty,” said Mr Støre.
