Norway pledges additional funds for UN reform

Norway has pledged USD 25 million as an additional contribution in 2007 for the implementation of UN reform.  

This was announced in Jakarta today at a two-day high-level regional consultation on UN reform. The conference was opened by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. Mr Stoltenberg was one of the co-chairs of the High-level panel on UN reform in the areas of development, humanitarian assistance and the environment, which presented its report in November last year. 

The additional funds will help the eight pilot countries implement “One UN Programmes”. This comes in addition to what Norway has already committed for UN activities in these countries this year. 

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s report on the High-level panel recommendations is expected in April.  

The eight “One UN” pilot countries are Pakistan, Vietnam, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uruguay and Albania.
