Russia takes over the chairmanship of the health collaboration under the Northern Dimension

November 25 Norway hosted the Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being’s Annual Conference. At the conference, Russia formally took over the chairmanship of the Partnership from Norway.

Pictorial health warnings on tobacco products

By 1 July 2011 all cigarette packs in Norway shall carry a pictorial health warning. -Research shows that pictorial warnings are far more efficient than textual warnings. Pictorial warnings are easier to remember, communicate health risks more clearly and increase the motivation to quit smoking, says State Secretary Ellen Birgitte Pedersen at the Ministry of Health and Care Services.

Billions to improve health services for women and children in developing countries

At a meeting at the UN in New York on 23 September, rich and poor countries pledged a total of USD 5.3 billion to improve the health of mothers and children in the world’s 49 poorest countries.

Norway intends to transfer 10% of H1N1 vaccine stock to developing countries

Norway, the US, Australia, Brazil, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland, France and the UK intend to transfer 10% of their stocks of the H1N1 vaccine to developing countries. - Our ability to protect ourselves against infections depends on other countries’ ability to protect themselves, said Norway’s Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
