Norway provides NOK 240 million to efforts to eradicate polio

Polio can be eradicated within the space of five to six years. Norway is to increase its level of support for efforts to eradicate polio by NOK 190 million, to NOK 240 million (USD 40 million).

Smoking heroin in drug consumption rooms

Minister of Health and Care Services Jonas Gahr Støre wants to allow smoking of heroin in drug consumption rooms. This is not a legalisation or decriminalisation of heroin smoking. The proposal will require an amendment of the Drug Injection Rooms Act, and will therefore be submitted for consultation.

Nordic/Baltic seminar on the subject of “Drinking water and sanitation in a Nordic and Baltic perspective – common challenges and collaboration”

The Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services in cooperation with the Nordic Council of Ministers wishes to invite Nordic and Baltic decision-makers from ministries with responsibilities in the fields of drinking water and sanitation, development and aid (for instance the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Ministry of Environment) , and their relevant subordinate agencies, to this seminar to be held the 7th and 8th of November 2012 in Oslo, Norway. The seminar is also linked to the programme of work of the UNECE/WHO-Europe Protocol on Water and Health.

Intensified efforts to promote maternal and child health

The Government proposes an additional allocation of NOK 650 million to significantly step up Norway’s efforts in the area of maternal and child health.
