Research on local governments and regions, dwellings, buildings and the environment

The Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation is responsible for areas of expertise that include local government administration and the implementation of elections, regional and district policy and housing and building policy.


Startup phase for the new government building complex

"The new government building complex should be modern. We will create a living, safe urban area with the best working conditions and the work starts now," says Minister of Local Government and Modernisation Jan Tore Sanner, marking the occasion of construction work starting in the complex on Monday.

Idea phase for the new government building complex

"We want input and ideas from the public to help create the new government building complex," says Minister of Local Government and Modernisation, Jan Tore Sanner. Work is to commence on designing the layout of the new complex. The government invites input on urban planning, traffic and public access.

Plans now being made for the new complex

"The new government building complex will be a modern, open, living and safe urban area," says Minister of Local Government and Modernisation, Jan Tore Sanner. Statsbygg has been commissioned to start work on the planning process for the new complex. This phase should be completed by 2016.

“History will unite with the future. We will change, but also preserve. The new Government Building Complex will be modern, stimulate vibrant and safe urban spaces and create good jobs, while also preserving our history,” says Prime Minister Erna Solberg.
