Norwegian Petroleum Directorate asked to review major projects

In response to the significant problems experienced on some recently completed development projects on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, Minister of Petroleum and Energy Ola Borten Moe has asked the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to review certain major projects.

Iceland withdraws from co-operation with Norway on purchase of rescue helicopters

Icelandic authorities have decided to end the co-operation on purchase of rescue helicopters as a consequence of great restrictions on public expenditures in Iceland. New rescue helicopters involve large investment requirements which the Icelandic government cannot guarantee in the coming years.

Changes in the NAWSARH Project

Due to changes in his son’s position within a potential supplier for procurement of new SAR- helicopters, the Ministry of Justice has concluded that project leader Kjell Jacob Johannessen will be disqualified to participate in the procurement process as long as this supplier is involved in the acquisition.

- I am very pleased that the Coastal Administration has now begun to empty oil from the wreck of HMS Bittern. Oil leaks that come from wrecks can threaten nature, and it is necessary to act quickly on the leak from HMS Bittern, says the Norwegian minister for fisheries and coastal affairs, Lisbeth Berg-Hansen.

New routeing measures have moved tankers further away from the coast

“Tankers and ships of a certain size have been moved further away from the coast. This reduces the risk of accidents and pollution and provides safety to our coastal communities and protects the environment from pollution, says Norway’s Minister for Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Lisbeth Berg-Hansen.

With effect from 1 June 2011, tankers and ships of 5000 gt will be subject to new traffic separation measures off the coast of southern and western Norway.

The future helicopter search and rescue service

The government is engaged in replacing the Sea King helicopters, which have seen almost forty years of service, and putting in place a speedier and more effective rescue helicopter service that is capable of assisting as many people in a difficult situation as possible, writes State secretary Terje Moland Pedersen.

Norway intends to transfer 10% of H1N1 vaccine stock to developing countries

Norway, the US, Australia, Brazil, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland, France and the UK intend to transfer 10% of their stocks of the H1N1 vaccine to developing countries. - Our ability to protect ourselves against infections depends on other countries’ ability to protect themselves, said Norway’s Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
