Norge har sammen med EU, Canada og Sveits i dag, 01.01.08, sendt ut følgende pressemelding i Nairobi, Kenya:

The 19 EU missions and the European Commission in Kenya  as well as the missions of Canada, Norway and Switzerland wish to congratulate the people of Kenya for their massive and peaceful participation to the general elections on 27th December. Their dignity and faith in the democratic process , shown on polling day, must be maintained.

They are appalled by and condemn the incidents of violence taking place in Kenya, including horrific killings in several Kenyan cities and towns. They call on all political leaders to urge restraint and avoid any actions that inflame tensions. They call on those involved, including government security forces and political party supporters, to behave responsibly, to act within the law, and to address their grievances peacefully.

They welcome the preliminary statement made on 1st January 2008 by the EU Election Observation Mission, and fully share the doubts expressed in it.
