The UN
'Working together for a better world’. This is the ideology behind the UN. The organisation was founded after two devastating World Wars, and its primary aim is to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.
Women, Peace and Security
In 2000 the UN Security Council adopted the landmark UN Security Council Resolution 1325. The resolution emphasize that war and conflicts affect men, boys, women, and girls differently. Therefore, both men and women need to take part in decisions related to peace and security. Inclusive and gender sensitive processes are crucial, to provide sustainable peace and security for all.
International cooperation; crucial to Norway’s security, economy and prosperity
The rules-based international order is crucial to seek solutions to common challenges. Multilateral institutions like the UN have played a key role in developing the rules-based international system of cooperation between states. A key goal for Norwegian foreign policy over the coming years is to support binding international cooperation and the multilateral system.
