Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre has condemned the bomb attacks on a UN office and a public building in Algeria in the strongest possible terms.
“These attacks are completely unacceptable, and have randomly hit innocent people. These acts reveal a total lack of respect for human life, and simply cause outrage,” said Mr Støre, adding that it was particularly serious that UN personnel were directly targeted.
Mr Støre expressed regret at the loss of life. The victims include a large number of UN employees.
“I would like to offer my condolences to the families of those affected by this tragedy, and want to express Norway’s sympathy with the people of Algeria, the authorities and the UN.”
