“Norway condemns the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi in Libya in the strongest terms,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi was attacked on Tuesday evening. It has been confirmed that a US diplomat has been killed. There are reports that other employees at the consulate have also been killed.

“We condemn the attack on the US consulate in Bengazi and the killing of diplomats and ordinary civilians in the strongest terms. Such acts of violence are indefensible. We will raise this matter with the Libyan authorities. Under international law, the receiving state has full responsibility for the security of diplomatic and consular missions and their staff,” said Mr Støre.
