On 19. March, Minister Widvey met with the Latvian Minister of Culture, Dace Melbārde. Melbārde was in Oslo on the occasion of the Latvian state visit to Norway.
The Latvian Ministry of Culture is in the process of establishing a new Department of Media Policy. The ministers discussed i.a. governance issues, media ownership, press subsidies and VAT rates on print and digital media.
Minister Melbārde also took interest in the Norwegian model for channeling the proceeds from the state-owned gaming company, Norsk Tipping, to the voluntary, cultural and sports sectors. Melbārde was also interested in The Cultural Rucksack, a comprehensive scheme for arts and culture in Norwegian schools.
