On Monday 1 June the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Tord Lien and the EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, Miguel Arias Cañete, met in Norway for the annual EU-Norway Energy Dialogue meeting.

Norway and the EU have cooperated closely in the energy field for decades, and the relationship is getting even closer. The energy partnership with Norway is a key element of the Energy Union Strategy.

Norway and the EU share ambitious climate targets, and are committed to further developing efficient and interconnected energy markets to achieve our shared goals. Well-functioning and efficient energy markets are preconditions for security of supply, and for developing an effective energy and climate policy in Europe.

During their meeting, Minister Lien and Commissioner Arias Cañete discussed the Energy Union Strategy, the Internal Energy Market and the Norwegian Contributions to the EU Security of Supply. In 2014, Norway exported 106 billion cubic meters of gas (BCM) to the EU, from its total production of 107 BCM.  They also exchanged views on further cooperation on carbon capture and storage (CCS), natural gas, and Norwegian participation in regional cooperation.

On Tuesday 2 June, Commissioner Arias Cañete and Minister Lien will visit the Troll gas field. Troll (which contributes to a quarter of the total Norwegian gas production) and the Sima hydro power plant on the Norwegian Western Coast. Sima is the second largest hydropower plant in Norway.
