The Government extends the mandate for the Norwegian military force based in Jordan. The task remains unchanged: To train, advice and support to local Syrian groups in their fight against ISIL.

- The fight against ISIL is a key priority, both for the government and for our allies. The Norwegian force contribution is very relevant and highly valued by the coalition. Our combined efforts in Iraq and Jordan are important contributions to the fight against ISIL. We stand with our allies in the fight against the terrorist organization, says Minister of Defense, Ine Eriksen Søreide.

The government decided in May 2016 to deploy a Norwegian force contribution to Jordan for training, advising and supporting Syrian groups in their fight against ISIL.  The mandate of this contribution is now extended until 10 March 2018.
