On Friday, Prime Minister Erna Solberg will start a four-day official visit to China. The main purpose of the visit is to meet the Chinese leadership and re-establish political and economic cooperation.
The official programme for the visit includes meetings with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhang Dejiang, and an official welcoming ceremony and banquet hosted by Premier Li.
‘The visit to China is important for re-establishing political cooperation and dialogue. China is playing a key role in the work to mitigate climate change and in the international efforts to promote development and fight poverty. It is therefore an important international partner for Norway,’ said Ms Solberg.
Prime Minister Solberg will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende, Minister of Trade and Industry Monica Mæland, and a delegation of representatives from the Norwegian private sector.
‘The Chinese market offers significant opportunities for the Norwegian private sector, and Norwegian business and industry has a lot to offer in areas where it is at the forefront internationally. Business cooperation between our countries is wide-ranging and strengthens our ties, while also promoting the transfer of expertise in areas that are important for both of our societies and economies,’ said Ms Solberg.
On Friday 7 April, Prime Minister Solberg will take part in a conference for the Norwegian and Chinese business sectors in Beijing, before meeting Premier Li Keqiang later in the afternoon for talks.
On Saturday 8 April, Ms Solberg will visit Shanghai, where she will speak at Fudan University and visit DNV GL’s Chinese headquarters.
On Sunday 9 April, Ms Solberg will have several meetings in Hangzhou, including one with Alibaba/Jack Ma Foundation.
On Monday 10 April, the delegation will once again be in Beijing, where Ms Solberg will visit Peking University before meeting President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People next to Tiananmen Square in the afternoon.
