Over 6,000 participants from around the world are heading to Nova Spektrum in Lillestrøm to attend the world’s largest gathering for dialogue on the factors that will shape tomorrow’s internet and the global digital development, taking place from 23 to 27 June.

“I am looking forward to welcoming the world to the largest UN conference ever held on Norwegian soil. This is an important event, because a number of countries want to restrict freedom on the internet. Close international collaboration and open discussions on the governance of the internet are essential to ensure that the internet remains open, safe and free for all,” says Norway’s Minister of Digitalisation and Management Karianne Tung (Labour).

Among the participants who are heading to Lillestrøm are the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Henna Virkkunen, the UN Under-Secretary-General Li Junhua, the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Doreen Bogdan-Martin, and Nobel Prize winner Maria Ressa. They will be joined by some of the world’s largest technology companies, such as Meta, TikTok, Lenovo, Amazon, Bluesky, OpenAI, Lego, Disney Microsoft and Google.

Among the topics to be discussed are:

    • artificial intelligence
    • sustainability and energy in digital infrastructure
    • protecting children and young people in the digital environment
    • safeguarding fundamental rights and freedoms
    • working to ensure that the internet continues to be governed globally through the multi-stakeholder Internet Governance Forum

Norway’s Minister of Digitalisation and Management Karianne Tung will attend a number of the IGF events

She will be joined by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Bart Eide, the Minister of International Development Åsmund Grøver Aukrust, the Minister of Culture and Equality Lubna Jaffery, and the Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth.

All the events will be live-streamed on UN Web TV
