One child who is thought to be seriously ill, the child’s mother and one sibling landed in Norway last night. Staff from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accompanied the family on their journey to Norway, with assistance from the Norwegian police.

‘The decision to provide assistance to enable the family’s return to Norway was taken on humanitarian grounds because of fears that one of the children is seriously ill. I am pleased that we will now be able to bring this difficult consular case to a close. I would like to thank all those who have contributed to this work,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has cooperated with the relevant authorities to facilitate the family’s return and their reception in Norway. The mother was arrested on arrival in Norway. The children are receiving health care and will be followed up by the child welfare services.

‘These children need a calm environment and must be shielded from public attention. I hope that this will be respected,’ Ms Eriksen Søreide said.
