“Norway is extremely concerned about the acts of violence in Sudan over the last few days in connection with the protests and demonstrations, and about the disproportionate use of force. Sudan must respect fundamental human rights, and this includes the right to freedom of assembly and expression,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide.
Many people have lost their lives in connection with the demonstrations in Sudan over the last few days.
“I strongly urge the authorities in Sudan to exercise restraint,” said Mr Eide.
He also emphasised the importance of allowing the Sudanese and international media to carry out their work and report on the situation.
“We call on the Government of Sudan to show willingness to engage in a broad and genuine dialogue on the political and economic challenges facing Sudan. All parties should participate in this dialogue, as it is in the best interests of the country as a whole,” said Mr Eide.
