Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende has condemned the terrorist attack in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, in which 21 Afghan and foreign citizens were killed.

“Norway condemns the terrorist attack in Kabul in the strongest possible terms. Our thoughts are with the many victims of this attack and their families,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende.

In the early evening of 17 January terrorists attacked a popular restaurant filled with guests. According to reports, 21 people were killed and an unknown number of people were injured.

“The attack shows that the security situation in Kabul is highly volatile. This time the target was foreigners, but Afghan civilians were also among the casualties,” said Mr Brende.

The terrorist attack took place in a residential area, near the Norwegian Embassy. No Embassy employees or any Norwegian citizens were physically injured in the attack.
