Statement by Foreign minister Ine Eriksen Søreide on the Israeli settlements

I am deeply concerned about Israel’s planned settlement construction in Givat Hamatos and Har Homa in East Jerusalem, as well as in the E1 area in the West Bank.
The Norwegian Government considers the settlements on occupied Palestinian territory to be in contravention of international law.
If these plans were to be implemented, they would undermine the territorial contiguity of a Palestinian state, and impede the prospects for achieving a negotiated two-state solution.
I call on the Israeli government to reconsider these plans.
