The Norwegian Minister of Children, Equality and Social Inclusion Inga Marte Thorkildsen supports the meetings in Istanbul concerning The Global Initiative: Women Leaders for Women’s’ Rights for Women in Muslim Societies

The global initiative was initially made by the four high-profile human rights women activists, Rebiya Kadeer from China, Malahat Nasibova from Azerbaijan, Shirin Ebadi from Iran and Souhayr Belhassen from Tunisia during their meeting in Oslo in January this year, where Minister Inga Marte Thorkildsen participated. The meetings in Oslo were facilitated by the Rafto Foundation, the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo and the International Federation for Human Rights. These three institutions are to play a vital role in the further development of the initiative.  The further discussions on the way forward on following up the global initiativ and the planning the next meeting this autumn are to take place under the World Congress  of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) in Istanbul 23.-26. May this year.  The aim is to arrange a global conference in 2014.
