Statistics Norway prepares and publishes official statistics in Norway, in addition to conducting extensive research activities.
The statistics prepared by Statistics Norway encompass most aspects of society. Statistics Norway is responsible for the National Accounts and other key economic statistics. This information is used in, inter alia, preparing the National Budget and long-term plans. Other examples of economic statistics are data on Norway’s international trade, tax revenues, inflation, production, labour force participation and unemployment.
Statistics Norway is also responsible for the coordination of statistics prepared by other government bodies, and has overall responsibility for Norway’s participation in international statistical cooperation.
Statistics Norway had 885 employees as at 31 December 2016, and its 2017 budget is NOK 849.7 million. It is anticipated that about 27 percent of the expenditures of Statistics Norway in 2017 will be covered via paid assignments for public and private sector clients, with the remainder being made up by fiscal budget appropriations.
