The Norwegian System of Compensation to Patients

The Norwegian System of Patient Injury Compensation, NPE, is a public agency under the Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services.

• NPE handle compensation claims free of charge for patients who have sustained an injury while in the care of the health service
• NPE also collects and collates injury case data to provide a statistical basis for the health sector's quality improvement and injury prevention work
• NPE works to inform the public, patients and the health service about the patient injury compensation scheme
