Department of Civil Aviation, Postal Services and Telecommunications

The Civil Aviation Section has overall responsibility for the framework conditions for civil aviation and has both legal and financial means at its disposal. The Postal Services and Telecommunications Section works to promote good, reasonable and future orientated services within postal and electronic communication. The Safety and Security Unit, which is located in the department, is responsible for co-ordination of The Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ work on safety and security, preparedness and crisis handling across the Ministry and towards the sector.

  • Postal Services and Telecommunications Section

    Framework conditions for postal and telecoms activities. Legislation work. Licences in accordance with postal and telecoms legislation. Frequency administration. Governance of Nkom. Preparedness and safety. Information society issues. Research and development within telecommunication and information technology. International cooperation in the postal and telecoms areas.

  • Civil Aviation Section

    Framework conditions for aviation. Legislation work. State ownership interests in Avinor AS. Governance of The Civil Aviation Authority and The Accident Investigation Board Norway. Investigation, planning, finance and budget issues. Tenders for regional air routes. General legal questions and licence, appeal and interpretation issues in accordance with The Aviation Act. General aircraft safety work. Aircraft noise and other environmental issues within aviation. International aviation cases, including two-sided aviation negotiations and EEA/EU cases in aviation. International and Scandinavian aviation cooperation.

  • Safety and Security Unit

    The Safety and Security Unit is responsible for the coordination of the work of The Ministry of Transportation and Communications within safety and security, preparedness and crisis handling across the Ministry and towards the sector.
