Government to launch new debt relief plan
The Norwegian government is launching its new Plan of Action for Debt Relief for Development, which is a follow-up to the Norwegian Debt Relief Strategy of 1998. The new plan of action will be presented at a breakfast seminar at Asylet, Grønland, Oslo, on Thursday 13 May at 08.30.
The plan of action is being officially launched on World Debt Day, which is 16 May, but the Minister of International Development, Hilde F. Johnson, will be presenting it for the first time tomorrow. A panel consisting of Silje Hagerup, the co-ordinator of the Norwegian Campaign for Cancellation of Third World Debt (SLUG), and Karl-Ove Moene, professor of economics at the University of Oslo, will comment on the plan, after which there will be a general debate. There will also be an opportunity for the press to ask questions. The seminar will start with a musical performance by Odd Nordstoga.
