Karita Bekkemellem (Social Democratic Party) assumed the post of Minister of Children and Family Affairs on 17 Oct. 2005. On 1 Jan. 2006 the name of the ministry was changed to the Ministry of Children and Equality. Karia Bekkemellem was also Minister of Children and Family Affairs during Jens Stoltenberg’s first government, from 2000 to 2001.
