Minister of Education, Bård Vegar Solhjell, is responsible for kindergarten and basic education (compulsory education from 1 - 10th degree and upper secondary education). Solhjell has a Master Degree in political science. From 2005 to 2007, Solhjell was State Secretary at the Prime Minister’s office. He has held a number of key functions in his capacity as a member of the Socialist Left Party, at present vice-chairman.
