Advisory panel on macroeconomic models and methods

The Ministry of Finance has named the members of its advisory panel on macroeconomic models and methods. The Panel will be chaired by Professor Steinar Holden, and will advise the Ministry on topics relevant to the Ministry’s work on macroeconomic issues.

"General confidence in analyses and judgments that form the basis for formulating economic policies is important," says Minister of Finance Sigbjørn Johnsen.

In order to continuously improve the theoretical and technical capabilities of the Ministry of Finance, and strengthen the Ministry’s contact with academic institutions, the Ministry has established an advisory panel on macroeconomic models and methods.

The advisory panel will be chaired by Professor Steinar Holden, of the Institute of Economics at the University of Oslo. The Professors Torben Andersen (Aarhus University), Hilde Bjørnland (Norwegian Business School), Lene Foss (University of Tromsø), Øystein Thøgersen (Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration) and Ragnar Torvik (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) are appointed members of the panel, as are Director of Research Torbjørn Hægeland (Statistics Norway) and Senior Advisor Ragna Alstadheim (Norges Bank). Furthermore, Director Generals Knut Moum and Nina Bjerkedal of the Ministry of Finance will be members of the panel.

"When selecting members for the panel, we wanted to ensure that the panel had broad and deep professional expertise. I believe we have been rather successful in this respect. With the participation of Professor Torben Andersen, the panel includes a highly qualified economist from outside Norway," says Minister of Finance Sigbjørn Johnsen.

The panel is expected to hold semi-annual meetings, or more frequently if needed. The first meeting will be at the end of the summer. The Ministry of Finance will act as the panel’s secretariat.

"The panel itself, in dialogue with the Ministry of Finance, decides which topics to address in its meetings. Minutes of the panel’s meetings will be published on the Ministry’s web site. The panel will also arrange open seminars on topics related to economic models and methods relevant to the Ministry’s work," says Minister of Finance Sigbjørn Johnsen.
