Anybody who finds unwanted information about oneself on the internet is now able to contact the Norwegian Data Inspectorate’s new service slettmeg.no (“deleteme.no”) for advice.

The service was recently launched by the Data Inspectorate’s director, Mr. Georg Apenes, and the minister of government administration, reform and church affairs, Ms Rigmor Aasrud. - I would like to offer congratulations to us all. I think many citizens are going to need this service and I think that a lot of people will benefit from it.  The service will be an important tool for a great number of people, Ms Aasrud says.

Slettmeg.no will be offering advice and guidance to the public, by means of a web site, telephone, e-mail and chat service. On the web site one will find guidance as to how one may remove personal information from the internet. In addition, one will find an overview of relevant laws and regulations concerning internet publication. Additionally, the service may contribute in clarifying whether one may assume that a piece of information (picture, text, sound file) published on the internet is within legal boundaries.

The service is a two-year trial project operated by the Data Inspectorate and is financed by the Ministry of Government Administration, Reform and Church Affairs.
