Report from the Green Tax Commission

The Green Tax Commission has submitted its report to the Minister of Finance Siv Jensen today. The commission was appointed on 15 August 2014 and has evaluated whether and how a green tax reform can be used to secure reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved environmental conditions and sound economic growth.

Professor Lars-Erik Borge, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, has chaired the commission that otherwise has consisted of experts from the fields of economics and law.

“I thank the Commission for a thorough report with unanimous recommendations. It is a competent Commission that has assessed the use of environmental taxes in line with the mandate given by the government”, says the Minister of Finance Siv Jensen.

The report will be submitted for public consultation today, 9 December. Stakeholders are invited to provide input by 9 March 2016. Organisations and others that are not on the consultation list are also invited to provide input.
