The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is maintaining its global advice against non-essential travel to all countries. This advice is now being extended to apply until 25 May 2021, and may be further extended.

‘The Norwegian health authorities are currently assessing the basis for global travel advice for the summer period. At this point, it is too early to say anything about how long the travel advice will need to stay in place. That is why the extension in this case is short and applies only until 25 May. We need more time to decide on the global travel advice for summer,’ said Head of Communication in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Trude Måseide.

The situation for travellers is still unpredictable, with strict restrictions and high infection levels in many countries. In light of the global Covid-19 situation, the capacity of other countries’ health services and the travel restrictions that apply in other countries, it is not a good idea to ease restrictions or withdraw the global travel advice just yet.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide more information before 25 May.
