Lars Jacob Hiim was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Public Security 24 January 2020. He has previously been State Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. 

He has previously served as a director in the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) and State Secretary in the Ministry of Climate and Environment. Hiim is a graduate lawyer from the University of Oslo, and has also worked as a trainee lawyer. Hiim is married to the Minister of Labour and Social Affair, Ms Anniken Hauglie. They have two children.
