As a result of the Storting's decision on 7 June 1905 to dissolve Norway's union with Sweden, a government decree decided the Ministry of Trade’s department of foreign affairs should be placed under the political responsibility of Prime Minister Jørgen Løvland, since 11 March 1905 the Norwegian Prime Minister in Stockholm.On 1 December 1905 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was formally established.
