Government indemnity scheme for exhibitions of foreign objects

The King in Council may approve the issue of government indemnities for major exhibitions of objects borrowed from abroad, subject to a total annual cap set by the Storting (the Norwegian parliament).

The government indemnity scheme was established in 1985, and is of great cultural importance. The insurance-premium savings made by Norwegian museums and galleries enable them to arrange exhibitions of high-quality foreign objects.

The scheme is administered by the Arts Council Norway. Separate guidelines have been prepared on the applicable indemnity terms.
