The Vocational Education and Training (VET) Promotion
In coming years there will be a great need for skilled workers with vocational education and training in Norwegian businesses and the public sector alike. Thus steps must be taken to raise the status of vocational subjects and to reduce the unacceptably high dropout rates. More apprenticeships are needed as well as more and better-targeted educational pathways.
Vocational education and training is designed to produce skilled tradespeople. In coming years there will be a great need for workers with this kind of training in both the private and the public sectors.
One of the Government’s primary aims for the VET Promotion is to achieve closer cooperation between working life and upper secondary education – to provide the workforce with the skills it needs and enable young people to develop their abilities through vocational education and training.
Norway will be in need of more vocational education teachers in the years to come to help to produce skilled tradespeople for the national workforce. Knowledgeable, competent vocational teachers often make a key difference in pupils’ lives.
