Vocational teacher promotion initiative

Norway will be in need of more vocational education teachers in the years to come to help to produce skilled tradespeople for the national workforce. Knowledgeable, competent vocational teachers often make a key difference in pupils’ lives.

Training good tradespeople requires sound educational programmes and an adequate number of competent vocational teachers. Skilled vocational teachers can make all the difference by helping to provide high-quality vocational training that is targeted towards labour market demand.

Many vocational teachers at upper secondary schools lack sufficient teacher training and are in need of competence-building due to the constant evolution of working life in the subjects they teach. The Government is addressing these challenges in its new strategy.
