Implementation of the Thematic Priorities of the Action Plan for Environment in Development Cooperation

The operationalisation of the Action Plan for Environment is progressing.

The operationalisation of the Action Plan for Environment is progressing.

The Action Plan is valid for ten years, from 2006 – 2015.

To operationalise the Action Plan, an environmental project was established to run for two years. It started during autumn 2006 and was lead by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Norad and in close dialouge with relevant research institutions and civil society. The project developed a set of guidelines to operationalise the thematic priorities of the Action Plan.

The guidelines provide the Norwegian Foreign Service and its partners with an overview over how the Government intends to follow-up and prioritise the different aspects of the thematic areas listed in the Action Plan: biological diversity and natural resources, water resources, water and sanitation, climate change and access to clean energy, and hazardous substances. The guidelines are “living documents” which includes directions that are adjustable to achieve flexibility both in relation to time and to countries and regions.
