A strategy for the prevention of HIV and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (2001).
In presenting this Strategic Plan, the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs defines overall principles, general objectives and specific objectives for prevention in this area of public health. This Strategic Plan provides the guidelines for future efforts in this area and helps to ensure that society is better prepared to meet present and future challenges. Its primary objective is to reduce new infection with HIV and sexually transmitted diseases and to ensure that everyone who is infected with these diseases is given the proper follow-up regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, place of residence, ethnic background and financial situation.
This Strategic Plan calls on people to take responsibility for their own behaviour and life style, but it also calls on them to show consideration for their fellow human beings and thus ensure that infection is prevented and disease avoided.
A broad social commitment is needed to achieve these objectives.
