When Fredrikstad Municipality wanted to reduce energy consumption in Borge Nursing Home, they considered a heat pump. But the old radiators are dimensioned for a water temperature of 80 °C, a temperature it is difficult if not impossible, to reach with a heat pump. They decided in stead to use a pellets boiler.

Support from Enova

With various renovation, partly due to neglected maintenance, the costs reached NOK two million. Some of this renovation would have had to be done anyway, the additional costs caused by the change from oil to pellets where estimated to NOK 1,3 million. Ten per cent was covered by a «conversion subsidy» from Enova.

Saves both Money and the Environment

The prize for pellets delivered in large quantities is 30 øre per kWh. Lately the costs for electricity and network tariff have been 70 øre. So, there’s money to be saved. If 500 000 kWh can be bought for 40 øre less, there will be 200 000 NOK to manage the investment with.
