In Oslo there are around 13–15 000 oil boilers that contribute substantially to greenhouse gas emissions. The politicians have decided that these boilers will be replaced by renewable energy sources. By replacing the boilers we can get rid of a third of Oslo’s total emissions.

All Oil Boilers Replaced by 2020

Reducing emissions and saving money and energy are part of the environmental profit of replacing these burners. The municipality is making a statement: It has been decided that all oil boilers in municipal buildings will be replaced before 2012, and that all use of oil based fuel will end by 2020.

Where possible, the oil boilers will be replaced by district heating. In areas where there are no district heating systems, the boiler can be replaced by bio energy or heat pumps.
