Subsidy Reduces Emissions

Oslo gives financial support to those who exchange their wood stoves, or exchange or replace their oil boilers and heat pumps. Without «Enøkfondet» (Energy Efficiency Fund), the energy consumption in Oslo would be about ten per cent higher.

Heating and combustion contributes to poor air quality and greenhouse gas emissions. The climate and energy efficiency work in Oslo will reduce emissions and improve the urban environment.

Clean-Burning Wood Stoves

The Energy Efficiency Fund supports replacement of old wood stoves with clean-burning stoves. New clean-burning stoves in 8000 households, has reduced the suspended dust emissions by 70 tons. The replacement will continue and in 2004 and 2005 support was given for the replacement of 3000 old wood stoves. The economical support is 1500 NOK per stove.

Replacement of Oil Boilers

Unlike the state fund Enova, the Energy Efficiency Fund can support single households. The Fund gives support to both replacing and removal of oil boilers and heat pumps. This is of great significance to reach Oslo’s climate and energy targets. The Fund also supports large-scale energy changes in the municipality.

The Energy Efficiency Fund

The Energy Efficiency Fund in Oslo’s support has reduced the city’s energy consumption by 1,3 TWh the last ten years. This means that the energy consumption would be ten per cent higher than if Oslo did not have an Energy Efficiency Fund.

Oslo continues working with energy efficiency in buildings and civic buildings. The most important measure is the Oslo Energy Efficiency Fund’s support.

The City Council decided before Christmas in 2009 to expand the Fund to a Climate and Energy Efficiency Fund. This is to show the significance of the Fund and stimulate initiatives reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings and plants in Oslo.
