An electric car is the most environmentally friendly alternative if you need a city car. In Oslo you can apply for financial support to install a charging station in your local community or near your office.

Oslo Municipality is working to make it easy and cheap to choose an electric car. This is because the electric car is very energy effective and runs on renewable electricity from Norwegian hydropower.

The electric car contributes to a better urban environment because it needs less space, makes very little noise and saves us from particle discharge and local pollution.

If more people replace their conventional car with an electrical one, Oslo’s urban environment will improve and greenhouse gas emissions fall. This is why electrical cars can park for free and drive through the “toll ring” without paying. Oslo Municipality also wants to buy and lease as many climate neutral electrical cars as possible for their own use.

400 Charging Stations

To support the use of electrical cars in the city, Oslo Municipality has set up 46 charging stations. It has been decided that by the end of 2012, a total of 400 stations will be available in Oslo. The charging stations will provide free electricity and parking. The sockets will be locked and the parking spaces are reserved for electrical vehicles.

Apply for Charging Station Support

What if the charging stations are nowhere near your home or workplace? In 2009, the Department of Energy Efficiency and the Traffic Department established a financial support arrangement for housing cooperatives, condominiums, businesses, shopping centres etc. that want charging stations for electrical cars. The support is not available to individuals, it is aimed at providing stations for multiple users.

The support is 10 000 NOK for one parking space, but you can not get more support than the cost of the space. You can build a charging station for your business’ or your housing cooperative’s own electrical cars, or rent out the spaces to other users, as long as the space is reserved for electrical cars only. The application form can be retrieved from The Energy Efficiency Department. Oslo Municipality wants more electrical vehicles, and housing co-operatives, condominiums, public actors and businesses are encouraged to apply!
