Porsgrunn Municipality wants its inhabitants to reduce car use to and from work and on duty; this includes both Herøya Industripark (Herøya Industry Park) and Porsgrunn Municipality.

«Smart trafikant» (Smart Road User) is a cooperation between Herøya Industripark and Porsgrunn Municipality continuing until 2010 and carrying out the following measures:

* Collection of data, along with other measures to improve public transport services

* Improved accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists

* Testing out various stimulating measures or «carrots», including:

  • Enhanced bicycle parking opportunities
  • New metroXpress bus service to and from Herøya Industripark

* A bicycling day for employees

* A designated action campaign

Together, these measures will make it easier to become a Smart Road User, leaving the car at home unless it is absolutely necessary.
