Gratulasjonsbrev til Somalias nye statsminister

Statsminister Erna Solbergs gratulasjonsbrev til Somalias nye statsminister Mohamed Hussein Roble.

Dear Mr Roble

I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to you on your appointment as Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Our two countries have cooperated for many years and we will continue to expand and deepen our friendship and collaboration.

As you know, Norway and Somalia are cooperating in a number of areas related to peace, reconciliation, security, humanitarian assistance, inclusive politics, and economic development. Last year our countries worked together on organising a conference on ending gender-based violence and Norway hopes to further advance the agenda on women, peace and security when we take our seat on the UN Security Council in January.

I am aware that Somalia has both parliamentary and presidential elections coming up soon. I believe you have been entrusted with responsibility for ensuring that these elections reflect the will of the Somali people and result in a peaceful transition. Furthermore, I have noted that one of your priorities will be the constitutional review, as a foundation for further democratic reforms. Let me assure you that Norway will continue to cooperate with Somalia to strengthen democracy and provide security for your citizens.

I wish you every success in carrying out your new duties. I look forward to working together and further developing the relations between our two countries in areas of common interest.

Yours sincerely

Erna Solberg
